Do you tend to shop mostly online or in your local high street? Here is the case for and against both types of shopping.

High Street Shopping

Pros
There is no nicer thing then going out on a beautiful day in your local high street shopping, you see lots of people, new ones and old faces that you know well.

You can grab a coffee and meet old friends, find lovely independent shops selling items that you have never seen before, you can try clothes on to see if they fit you perfectly, you can ask questions to the shop keepers to see if that product satisfies your every need.

Once you have spent the morning shopping away you can get some lunch to feed your hunger, there are options galore such as grabbing a quick sandwich with your favourite filling or having a full three course meal if that is what is required, then getting back to the task in hand - Shopping!! Shopping in your high street is a very social event and a great way to spend a day off either on your own or with friends having a catch up.

Cons
If the weather is wet it can make it a day full of hassle trying to avoid getting wet and sheltering when possible. If your day off is a weekend day then prepare yourself for a day of walking through large crowds and endless checkout queues. There will be families aimlessly wondering about some with unruly children just getting in your way.

The shops you love may not have your size so that nice jumper that would have been perfect for a certain occasion is unavailable. You also cannot get the service, everyone is too busy to attend to the shoe size you need or the advice you require on an electrical product.

You want to get some lunch but every where is packed and the empty ones are above the costs of what you have in your wallet/ purse. You end up falling out with your friends or family and wonder why you even went in the first place. Everything seems more expensive to you and if you have popped out in your lunch hour from work to get a couple of things your hour has gone before you know it so back to the daily grind for another four or five hours.

Online Shopping

Pros
If you want to make your shopping experience a quick and efficient one then online is for you. You can quickly find the product you are after and do a very quick price comparison to make sure that you are getting the best possible price; this is of course something you could do in the high street but would take days rather than minutes to complete. The products you want are out of stock on a website of your choice but remember there are dozens more sites selling that certain product so you can still get it.

You will not have to drive a long way to collect that product either; it will be delivered directly to your door and sometimes without paying a penny extra. You will also be able to read reviews on that product so that you know your purchase is exactly what you are after. The distance selling regulations also allow you to cancel any order within seven days of receipt, so if you decide against the purchase you can cancel.

All of this can be done in a small proportion of your lunch hour allowing you to eat and relax before getting back to work; this will also free your weekend up allowing you to spend the time doing what you want without rushing around looking for goods.

Cons
The biggest problem is not being able to actually see and touch the product before purchasing it. If the product is damaged on delivery you will have to wait for a replacement which can be a problem if it is intended as a gift.

You do not have the social element of shopping in your high street meeting people and catching up with friends, you can find yourself sat behind a computer losing touch.

The best way is to always combine both methods, for instance you can see the product in a store and then research and purchase it on the internet, you know what to expect and are guaranteed the best price. If you do find yourself behind a computer a lot of the time shopping then remember that there is always social media to talk to your friends!!

Interactive internet marketing provides multiple powerful techniques to establish a real presence on the internet. It takes advantage of the constantly improving tools that the internet has to offer to increase web traffic and customer conversion rates. In this article, I will discuss the power of integrating the social media and your business product or service into one website.

The tools offered by the interactive internet marketing are numerous. They include Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Web Flash sites, automated customer services and social media. They are very effective in driving traffic and attracting customers. The automation part of these tools is one key component that makes them appealing because it gives you time to expand your business by having more interactions with your customers. Another key component that would even allow a bigger traffic is the integration of the multiple components into one website. It would provide unique experience for your prospects and customers that would retain them and even drive them to bookmark your page.

The concept of integration is applied across many fields to increase the output of a desired task. For instance in electronics, the effort is always focused on merging multiple small circuits into a large one to increase the functionality and a good example is the microprocessor. Same applies to internet marketing techniques. You can be creative on how to incorporate your product information and allow the user to get entertained by having easy access to social media sites that drive huge traffic like Facebook or Twitter. You can even add a user friendly template with access to popular video games or TV shows. You can even partner with popular retails stores that people like to shop from and offer incentives like cash backs on purchases through your website. Such type of integration would transform your web page into a one stop internet shopping center and, most important, drive people to re-visit on a regular basis.

When considering the integration, you have to be prepared for the challenge in designing and maintaining the website. There will be a need to a constant increase in server capacity to handle the increase in the load on the system. Besides, there is a number of performance tweaking and tuning that would be required to the application, the database, and the server configurations to make the response times and page load times shorter. But this effort is worth it if it is increasing your Return On Investment (ROI).

It is amazing! The internet has altered the very fundamental methods to doing business in the modern world. From shopping to banking and everything in between, we are conducting all of our business on the internet. This is also true on buying and selling via auctions, where we no longer have to be tied to particular location in order to conduct essential trade.

You can understand that online auctions have evolved into a slightly different system than what is available in the real world. Some things that world in person do not work when conducting business online. But keep an open mind and you will understand the basics of whether one way is better or not than the other way. Read on.

Potential bidders at real life auctions have an automatic leg up over their internet counterparts in that they are able to see the items they are considering up close and in person. This is so important in the realm of big ticket items. But it is not an option that internet bidders are able to employ.

Of course, communication is also an issue when it comes to online transactions versus the traditional auction environment. Some sites do set up live chatrooms to correspond to their sales, but standard sites make it difficult to really talk to the person selling a particular item.

On the flip side of the stick, online auctions do provide some benefits. For beginners, sellers don’t have to shell out significant amounts in order to make sales. Sometimes there may be a listing fee, but this is usually negligible, especially considering the cost of renting a booth or venue in order to sell stuff.

Renting locations costs a lot, especially if you are renting a place that is ideal. Many auction rooms offer added benefits such a buffets or communication systems, but these aren’t always essential and sometimes just add to the basic cost of the rental.

Of course, the biggest benefit of the online auction is its sheer scope. Online auctions can reach anybody anytime regardless of where they are or when they decide to do their shopping. You aren’t locked in to a particular location where there may be no one who wants to buy your stuff.

Whether you are a buyer or a seller, it doesn’t matter, you should know the costs and benefits between the two different systems of selling. That way you will be able to identify what is best for you and your sales or buying experience.

Did you know that Web sites get mystery shopped? I talked with Tema Frank, president of Web Mystery Shoppers to learn more about how online mystery shopping works.

Web Mystery Shoppers looks for some of the same shopper qualities as other mystery shopping companies. Of course, shoppers have to be reliable and complete assignments by the deadline. They want people who have a critical eye and who can express themselves in writing.

Tema Frank says, “We need people of all backgrounds, all ages, all levels of computer experience.” In fact, they are actively looking for relatively new Internet users. More experienced computer users are able to “work around” problems that might stop less-experienced customers from buying.

As with other mystery shopping jobs, you should not expect a steady income from online mystery shopping. Payment is typically made by check within two or three weeks. Overseas shoppers who do not want to receive a check in U.S. or Canadian dollars are sometimes paid via other means, such as Amazon.com gift certificates.

After you apply, you will be asked to complete an unpaid training assignment. According to Tema, “We give you a scenario and send you to the Web site. You alternate between two screens-the client Web site and the questions. As you go through the site you fill out a questionnaire answering questions about what you are experiencing, how what you are getting differs from what you expected, and whether you would still be on the site if you weren’t being paid to be there.”

The scenario might be something such as looking for a gift for your mother or your 10-year-old nephew, selecting items for your home, or other typical customer situations. A “budget” will also be specified, such as, “You are shopping for a gift for your 10-year-old nephew. Your budget, including shipping and taxes, is $25.” You will not actually purchase the item, but that is what you are to shop for.

The training assignment is shorter than a paid assignment. Expect to spend 30 to 40 minutes on the training assignment, and about an hour on a paid assignment. Paid assignments may include testing the site’s search function and evaluating customer service by sending an email inquiry or making a telephone call.

Online shops typically do not require that the shopper actually complete a purchase. If entry of a credit card number is required, the client may provide a dummy number so that the shopper does not have to use his or her own credit card.

Although most mystery shopping companies edit shopper reports to eliminate spelling and grammar errors, Web Mystery Shoppers does not. They learned early on that there can be value in errors such as misspellings. In reports for a banking client, many shoppers spelled “mortgages” as “morgages.” This showed the client that they needed to optimize for the spelling error, so that people who search for information on “morgages” would find their site.

Web Mystery Shoppers clients include banks, retail, florists, travel, B2B, non-profit, and government agencies. According to Tema, “The usual clients I have are typically not the same ones that hire the store-based mystery shoppers.”

So what does Tema Frank see as the future direction of mystery shopping? She anticipates that companies will want “360 degree mystery shopping, shopping all channels through which the company operates” to make sure that the customer experience is consistent whether the customer is dealing with a brick and mortar store, Web site, catalog, call center, or other outlet.

Do you budget your spending? Or are you addicted to shopping? Research shows that shopping addiction affects mainly women while alcoholism affects men. Items which top a woman’s shopping list are clothes, makeup and jewelery.

You may have an internet shopping addiction if you spend a major part of your time online shopping for alluring products that seem just a mouse click away. If the only channel you watch on the telly is the home network, you could be at risk for a home network shopping addiction.

Causes Of Shopping Addiction

Shopoholics get a high from an addictive behavior like shopping. During shopping sprees endorphins and dopamine, naturally occurring opiate receptor sites in the brain get switched on making the person feel good. The nicer this feeling is the person is likely to shop more.”

To capitalize on this compulsive shopping instinct - shops display similar items alluringly side by side - making customers pick up what they want or desire rather than what they need being quite oblivious of the fact that one’s money is after all limited.

Shopping addiction is rooted in complex psychological reasons. Shopping may just be a means of escapism from the realities of life and its accompanying problem - an outlet to anger, depression, anxiety, boredom or loneliness.

Shopping cures none of your woes. It just seems to provide some instant relief. The long-term effects of shopping addiction can include debt and damage to close relationships.

Like most addictions, shopping addiction may be the result of trying to fill a void in your life with materialistic things, and gives only temporary happiness.

How To Treat Your Shopping Addiction

Treatment for compulsive shopping is like any other addiction. Shopping addiction may be treated with psychotropic drugs and counseling.

Here are some simple tips to recover from a shopping addiction:

Be honest and admit you have a problem. Take professional help and speak to wise and empathetic non-shopoholic friends who can offer unbiased moral support and positive encouragement to help you overcome your addiction. Chalk out a budget and ascertain a fixed amount, which you can spend on your personal shopping. Categorize items on your shopping list as necessities, comforts and luxuries with the help of your therapist. Try to minimize expenses on luxuries and judiciously monitor purchases of comforts. With the help of a mental health professional identify all the stages in the compulsive buying cycle- the triggers, feelings, dysfunctional thoughts, typical behavior and consequences. Try to break the vicious cycle of shopping sprees. Try to keep credit and debit cards just for emergencies. These cards just add fuel to fire in your shopping addiction. In fact canceling them won’t be a bad idea. Don’t subscribe to shopping catalog’s. Don’t even visit sales or discount warehouses as they may make you spend more in the long run. Avoid watching shopping programs on TV and try not to obsess over advertisements in magazines and newspapers. Divert your attention when you come across such advertisements. Also avoid window-shopping as before long you may end up in purchasing what you covet for but can’t really afford. Keep yourself busy throughout the day in work and various other hobbies. Don’t allow shopping to be your major or only hobby. Try to be farsighted. Understand that saving money will help you to buy an asset your family really wants in the future - a house or a car - or be used for emergencies and dry days.

There are many bargain shopping tools and resources available online to help you find great deals, compare prices, search many stores at once, get coupon codes and snag sale items first. Here are some of the best:

Price Comparison Search Engines

There are dozens of price comparison search engines on the net currently. Some of them charge the merchants to be listed and to be ranked higher than their competitors. This type of price comparison search engine may not be forthcoming with this information so they may not be as reliable, reputable or provide you as many choices as the sites that don’t charge for listings and allow any merchant to submit their products. Some of the major engines that charge for listing and ranking are Shopping.com, ShopZilla.com, PriceGrabber.com and NextTag.com.

The price comparison search engines that do not charge for listings and allow any merchant to submit their products are Froogle.com, ShopWiki.com and TheFind.com. You may find a bigger selection of stores with your item available and therefore a better chance of finding the absolute best price available anywhere.

Deals

There are many websites that cater to bargain hunters and deal shoppers. Most of these include a blog or post style main page that posts the latest hot deals for view, but most of them also offer a community of forums where users can view even more deals, post deals they have found and converse about how to get the best deal via pricematching, coupon codes and rebates. You’ll find a haven of bargain hunters at these sites. The best sites include Slickdeals.net, Fatwallet.com, Cheapstingybargains.com, BensBargains.net, Dealsea.com and Dealcatcher.com. Probably the best site would be Slickdeals.net, since they don’t allow affiliate links and therefore you are apt to get the most honest deals posted, whereas sites like Dealcatcher.com post mostly affiliate links where they make money from everything you purchase. When affiliate links are allowed, a site is likely to promote the best paying links first, not necessarily the best deals. Watch out for these affiliate and referral links.

If you’re looking for tech stuff, games or books, there are specialty price comparison search engines just for these products. They include TechBargains.com for tech deals, PriceWatch.com for tech/computer deals, Cheapassgamer.com for game deals and Addall.com for book deals. These sites will search specific merchants that specialize in these product areas as well as the larger merchants.

Coupons

There are dozens of sites devoted exclusively to posting the latest coupon codes. Coupon codes are available for a wide variety of discounts including free shipping, a free percentage off pricing, buy one get one free, free gift with order or a set dollar discount such as $5 off a $10 purchase. Whenever you buy online, don’t hit that SUBMIT ORDER button until you have searched for a coupon code for that merchant. Most large merchants have active coupon codes at any given time. Some of the big coupon code sites are Currentcodes.com, Couponmountain.com, Couponcabin.com, Flamingoworld.com and Couponcraze.com. Again, watch out for affiliate and referral links on these sites too, they often promote higher paying store links first. Slickdeals.net also offers a huge coupon code forum, be sure to check that out for non affiliate codes.

Auctions

Don’t forget to check out eBay and Yahoo’s auctions for deals on certain products as well. Auctions allow you to search millions of listings and millions of sellers at one time. They may not allow coupon codes or rebates, but auctions are the only buying avenue that allow you to have so much control over how much you pay for an item.

More Tools

There are also some handy tools to use when searching for deals, don’t miss Thebestbargainsonline.com’s great misspelling tool for searching eBay auctions.

Vacation Deals

This season, when it comes time to back-to-school shopping, many parents have decided to switch to online shopping for the supplies and even Dell computers their children need. One could find anything and everything on a child’s list for school through various online stores and Internet sites that are connected to real brick and mortar stores. Besides being convenient, getting supplies for school through online vendors, there is also a money saving incentive. Most of the online stores are considerably cheaper than the real world stores, even those connected to a real world store.

Canada online shopping is a big deal because they save even more money and taxes when they shop through the Internet rather than in the brick and mortar stores. Many of the online stores will offer free or very low cost shipping if a person’s order total goes over a certain amount and with school supplies, this is easy to do. From notebooks to crayons and staples and pens, most of the online stores carry everything a student will need to outfit them for the new semester ahead.

Now is the time to begin hunting for bargains with all the back-to-school sales, even if one doesn’t have a child going to school. These discounts are for everyone and anyone; they do not have to be a student in order to save money on things like laptop computers, folders, rulers and high tech calculators. Canadian online shopping consists of many different electronics, school supplies such as notebooks, pens, papers and books as well as discounts on clothing and shoes, everything a student would need to go back to school.

For students who are going off to college or universities that will be staying in a dorm or apartment, they need more items then the typical school supplies. These students will need home furnishing type supplies and most of the time; these types of items are also on sale at this time of year. These items consist of bed spread sets, desk and chairs, organizers for a desk, organizers for bathroom necessities for those who share a bathroom with others, small kitchen appliances and area rugs as well as beanbag chairs or other soft style floor seating.

There are many smaller office supplies or desk equipment that one may need during the course of a semester that they should purchase now to save themselves from running out and getting it later. Things such as a three hole puncher, ruler, protractor, paperclips, brads, rubber bands, masking and scotch tape, sticky notes, erasers, scissors, colored pencils, markers, glue and white-out. These things may not be used everyday but could be used at some point in the semester for a special project and it would be nice to have them on hand.

A lot of online shops will ship faster service for a small fee if someone needs a certain supply right away for a project. For example a poster board in a certain color or a type of scissors with a wavy edge. These are items that would cost less to purchase online then at the local supply store or book store and saving money is what college students need to do everywhere they can.

There are a couple of things to beware of when shopping online. One is the shipping and handling fees. Most companies are reducing their shipping fees in order to bring in more customers. However, they are raising their handling fees to make up for this lack of income. An individual would be wise to shop around for an online shop before filing their shopping cart they will no doubt save even more money.

There are also some stores online that will charge taxes and other that do not. There is no law that says an online store needs to collect taxes from a state where they are selling to. For example if a person lives in Missouri and they are online shopping at a place in Texas, they may have to pay a Texas state tax online but they do not have to pay Missouri state taxes. This is something to watch out for.

With the advent of internet marketing, everything we usually did physically like shopping or doing bank transactions can now be done from the convenience of your own home. Another area that has gained significant development is online auctions where one does not need to be specifically present at an auction room on a specified date or time.

Online auctions do have some variations from the traditional auction and one who engages in such has to know the difference between the two. Having the correct perspective will give you the salient points so you can decide whether to go on line or stay with the traditional auction to purchase the item you want.

First, a buyer has the edge of actually seeing and touching an item up close in a traditional auction. This is quite important in purchasing high priced collectibles - an online auction won’t give you much room to assess the merchandise as does a live auction. Communication is also harder with an online transaction as compared to a live, real-time auction, except for a few auction sites which set up live chats during a specified auction sale.

There are a lot of benefits to an online auction on the other hand. First, sellers don’t need to rent a space or venue and invite people to physically be present. Rentals can cost much, especially when you pick a venue that has good accessibility. Most auction rooms also offer perks such as food buffets to potential buyers - something you don’t need to spend on when you set one over the web.

The biggest benefit remains in the scope of audience reach. You can actually sell an item to anyone in the whole world with an online auction! You are not restricted to a specific locality where no one may be interested in your item. So whether you are a buyer or seller at an auction, it is important to familiarize yourself with the differences between the two. That way, you know which option is better depending on your specific buying or selling need.
